And now I'm back at college

So....I didn't update all summer. This doesn't really come as a surprise to me. I didn't have a ton of time to work on my crocheting, between my two internships pulling 40 hours a week of work (unpaid of course, which is the best way to do it), and constant trips to try and visit people on the weekends.

That being said, I did get a few things done, when I had the time to work on them.

First is the Vice President, from the Star Driver anime, done as a commission for a friend of a friend. He was awfully fun to make, despite the trouble with getting him to balance correctly.

This is a dragon, from the 8bit game Adventure (if you can see the resemblance). This was a progress shot (because I fail at deadlines and still haven't finished it) but it still looks relatively the same, if a little more 3D at this point.

And like I said, I haven't done a single thing even remotely resembling crocheting yet this semester, but I did draw a box turtle.

[Current Projects] I should just assume timing fails will happen from now on

I apologize, my meager number of blog followers! Summer has been really busy for me so far, with my internships and the scheduling thereof. I haven't had nearly as much time to get crocheting done as I would like, but I do have a few more things to share.

You also now get to experience my horrible room lighting! In any case, this is Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash from the revamp of My Little Pony. Fluttershy was a graduation gift for one of my friends (hence the little hat that isn't too clear from my photo) and Rainbow Dash was a commission, small as it was.

Also wings. It was sort of exciting the first time, but now I'm sort of terrified at the prospect of making them ever again. Magic and hot glue only takes you so far in life.

[Backlog] I don't even--

Otherwise known as, I fail at updating. Wow, over 2 weeks. I fully admit, I forgot about this entirely. But at this point I feel comfortable blaming it on the fact that I was preoccupied with my 3 week period of finals crunch time/writing two papers/going to Anime Boston. In the meantime, I'll give you what would have been my current projects, had I, you know, been updating in a timely fashion.

This is a tree frog, commissioned by a friend of mine as a gift for her mother. His legs are pose-able, because they've got pipe cleaners on the inside. Overall, very pleased with how this came out, considering I made up the whole pattern as I was going along.

This is the case I made for my new iPod touch! I could tell you all the tragic story about how I stupidly lost the one I had for many, many years by leaving it on an airplane, but that would take too long XD Not to mention this case looks a lot better than the old one. Design was meant to be steampunk, and I think I succeeded, to a small degree. Also I made all that lace myself :3

[Current Project] Booster Gold and Blue Beetle

Again. I repeat, failure to update in any sort of timely fashion. I'm hereby revoking my statement about actually updating twice a week. Pffft I'm funny sometimes.

Anyway, this time I bring you superheroes! I actually did some stuff like adding earlumps to Blue Beetle and mouths to both of them after I took this picture, but then promptly forgot to take a picture of the actual finished product.

These were commissioned by a friend of mine, who I think secretly knows that I have a weakness for total bros. Which these two are. See, they're even attempting a brofist for the pic (it took a while to get them to actually stay standing like that XD)

[Backlog] Fai

In other news, I fail at updating in a timely fashion.

These are a pair of Fai D. Flowright dolls I was commissioned to make for a friend, who commissioned a set of Kuroganes over the summer (who I unfortunately didn't think to take pictures of.) I'm of the opinion that they came out rather nicely, all things considered :3

[Backlog] Pokeball theme carrying case

I should probably have titled his entry, "In which spring break causes Ami to not update in a timely manner." In the meantime, I bring you more of the backlog.

This was a gift for one of my friends, who requested something to carry her vast array of crochet hooks in, as her collection did not come with a nifty case such as mine did. Thus, I whipped up this for her. It's made with afghan stitches, and the white section is sewed together. The white round in the middle acts as button to keep the case shut during travel.

These sorts of projects are always fun breaks from making dollies~

[Current Project] Wildcat & Hong Kong

So today we have a duo of dolls make for a friend of mine, who's actually gotten a few of these from me before (best customer y/y?) On the left, we have Wildcat from the Webcomic Midnight Navy (not one I'm personally familiar with, but the character designs I've seen so far as references are pretty adorable). On the right we have Hong Kong, from Axis Powers Hetalia. His leg warmers were kinda really fun to make for some reason XD

[Current Project] Penguin

So sometime during....January, I believe it was, one of my roommates asked me if I'd have time to make a penguin for her, as a gift to a friend of hers. I told her of course, and we sent up a general time frame. So, March rolled around and I realized that it was about when she said she needed it. So, I talked with her, found a reference, and we just started going from there.

This is an Adelie penguin, the one she decided was cutest of the ones we found, and the one the penguin I made was based on.

This is how the penguin turned out in the end :3 Not too bad, given that I was making up the pattern for it as I went. I think my biggest accomplishment, though, would be that it stands up on its own, something I was worried it wouldn't do in the end.

[Backlog] Russia~

So as many of you may or may not know, I happen to be friends with this awesome person who is infinitely patient in waiting for the dollies owed her at one point (I have since caught up to this debt XD)

Said awesome person also happens to be my guinea pig when I decide to test out making new things ♥

Without further ado, I present my "Big" size dollie~

Some of you may recognize him as Russia from the now popular webcomic turned anime, Axis Powers Hetalia~ He stands approximately 16 inches tall, versus the 10 inches of regular dollies. He actually reintroduced me to the idea of making dolls that could both sit and stand, and since him I've been making my smaller sized dolls able to do the same. His arms also move up and down.

Here's the second view, with him sitting. Also you can see him smiling.

This was also my first foray into trying to make a mini "wig cap" and attaching the hair to it via latch hooking, instead of just hot gluing hair to the head. I think it looks a lot neater now, and it's certainly a lot less painful for my fingers XD

[Backlog] First doll ever?

So,  I've been making these dolls for about 3 years now, and I have to say that I've come a looong way since I started XD I started when I was browsing in the book store, and found a copy of Creepy Cute Crochet, bought it, and learned just how much fun amigurumi was. Since then, I've moved on to making both bigger and smaller sized dolls, and predominantly make the bigger ones these days.

This is the first big doll that I ever made--it's Guy, from Tales of the Abyss. It was a gift to one of my friends for helping me out with a project of mine (cutting a wig to be exact.) Not the greatest thing I've ever made, but overall, not a bad start~

[Current Project] Aradia

So, the other day I finally finished my current commission project. Bringing you pictures because I'm extremely proud with how it turned out. This was an experiment, both in learning how to make pointy hoods/hats, and WINGS. Those wings were quite a challenge, let me tell you XD

This is Aradia, from the webcomic Homestuck. Commissioned by one of my friends. She both sits and stands, her arms move up and down, her wings will technically "flap", and her horns have wire on the inside, so they are pose-able, to a degree.

[Backlog] Octopi

aI have a feeling it is quickly going to become my habit to post here at hours of the night a wiser person would be doing things other than thinking to update blogs that might belong to them. I've been a little slow in working on my current project, due to a combination of school and my own inherent ability to procrastinate. In the meantime, I'll start on my backlog of dolls I've made in the past.

Today, I bring you my experiments in making cephalopods.

This is slightly-vicious-opus. He was my first experiment in making an octopus pattern. He currently sits on top of my television, "guarding" it.

This is watermelon-opus. He was an opportunistic creation, made mostly from the inspiration of having only 4 colors of yarn available, two of them being pink and green. He's currently searching for a home. (you also have the lovely bonus of a view of a portion of my roommate's half of the room)

A Welcome to myself..?

So...the best thing to say here is hello, right?

I've got friends who have been urging me to actually start keeping track of the dolls I make, and I guess after said friends all made blogs, it made sense to jump on their bandwagon. My goal will be to post at least three times a week, either with complete dolls, updates on the projects I'm currently working on, or with pictures of past projects.

Please to meet anyone who may be reading, and I look forward to working with this in the future.
